INS5T8563 is an industrial-grade and low-power RTC chip with I²C interface and versatile functions. It not only provides accurate year, month, week, day, hour, minute, and second timing, but also supports programmable clock output, interrupt output, low voltage detection, timers and alarms. With outstanding performance, it can be widely used in various electronic products and devices such as industrial control, security monitoring, automotive electronics, smart homes, smart appliances, consumer electronics and AIoT fields.

Functional Structure:

INS5T8563 consists of an Oscillator, RTC core, Power Management, I²C Interface, Interrupt/Fout circuit and Registers.

Among them, the oscillator is mainly used to activate the external crystal oscillator, and the RTC core is responsible for generating standard time signals. The chip also configures with 17 addressable 8-bit parallel registers, controlling register status, year, month, week, day, hour, minute, second, alarm, and timer. In terms of power management, the chip can provide current for digital circuits, oscillation circuits,  reference circuits, and startup circuits. At the same time, I²C provides users with a human-machine read/write interface, allowing users to freely program various functional outputs for easy and convenient use to meet diverse needs. In addition, the chip’s interrupt output circuit can also output different frequencies (32K/1024/32/1Hz), timing interrupts and alarm interrupts.

Characteristics and Advantages:

  • INS5T8563 is a crystal-separated RTC that allows users to freely choose a 32.786KHz crystal and link it to an external crystal through the XIN and XOUT pins. Compared with integrated 32.786KHz RTCs, it has lower power consumption, better cost-effectiveness and wider applicability.

  • Built-in load capacitance, combined with external fine-tuning capacitance, can match mainstream 32.768KHz crystals on the market (6~12.5pF), providing higher flexibility and adaptability.

  • Supports accuracy calibration to meet customer’s high-precision timing requirements.

  • Adopts digital compensation algorithm with a minimum compensation step of ±4.069ppm.

  • Supports SOP8 and TSSOP8 packages.

  • Soft and hardware compatible with mainstream brands on the market, with pin-to-pin compatibility, allowing users to smoothly switch to existing products.
